Faith wasn't something we added to Moo & Mooey because we thought it would make a good theme.
It's simply part of our family.
Our girls are growing up hearing about Jesus, learning Bible stories, saying their prayers and going to church. So when Moo & Mooey grew from two beloved stuffed cows into characters with their own songs and adventures, it felt completely natural that their world would reflect that part of ours.
But there was another reason, too.
As a Christian mother, I found it surprisingly difficult to find children's content that I personally felt comfortable putting in front of my girls. And when I did find Christian videos and music that I liked and approved of, Bella and Elena often just weren't interested in them.
I wanted something that could do both.
Something I could feel good about as their mom and something they would actually ask to watch again.
At first, not every Moo & Mooey song was a Bible song. We sang about going camping, riding trains, visiting Grammy, playing at the park and all the ordinary things little kids love.
Then we began telling Bible stories through music.
And something clicked.
We watched Bella and Elena sing about Noah's Ark, Jonah, David and Goliath and the birth of Jesus. They weren't sitting down for a lesson. They were singing, laughing and dancing.
But most importantly, they were remembering.
That matters to me.
There is plenty in this world that my girls will encounter soon enough. While they're little, I want to give them something joyful, wholesome and innocent. I want them to know that faith doesn't only belong inside a church building on Sunday morning. Jesus can be part of the songs they sing in the car, the stories they hear before bed and the characters they love.
That's also why I don't want Moo & Mooey to feel heavy or preachy.
They're still two silly little cows who go camping, plant gardens, visit the doctor, ride trains and get themselves into adventures.
But sometimes those adventures lead them to Noah's Ark.
Sometimes they meet David and a very big giant.
And sometimes they simply stop to say a little prayer.
Because that's what life looks like in our family.
A Bigger Dream for Moo & Mooey
And I have much bigger dreams for Moo & Mooey.
Right now, I create the visual stories that accompany our songs using illustrated scenes, bringing each adventure to life one image at a time. But my dream is to eventually take Moo & Mooey into full animation, where every song becomes its own animated adventure and these little characters can truly move, play, dance and tell their stories.
Full animation is a much larger production investment than I'm able to take on independently right now, but it's absolutely where I would love to see Moo & Mooey go.
For now, we're building it one song, one story and one adventure at a time—and I'm incredibly excited to see where those adventures eventually lead.
Moo & Mooey started with two little girls and two stuffed cows they loved more than anything. Now they're helping us give those same little girls songs and stories filled with things we want them to carry with them as they grow.
And as Moo & Mooey's world grows with them, I hope it always carries a little bit of what we're trying to give Bella and Elena here at home:
Faith, joy, kindness, laughter—and the knowledge that Jesus loves them. ❤️
